History[]
The Emden was a light cruiser that was the only ship in its class, she was built in the early 1920s. She was constructed in Wilhelmshaven, and launched in 1925. Her design was heavily influenced by the Treaty of Versailles, she was only armed with 8 single barrel guns. For most of her life she was a training ship. In 1940 the Emden participated in the Invasion of Norway. In 1944 she designated flagship of the mine-laying ships in Norway. In 1945, she carried Paul von Hindenburg's remains to Pillau. She was sunk by a British bomber whilst undergoing repairs in Kiel.
